Top 10 Tips for plan for your Personal Brand Photography Session

1. Clarify Your Brand Vision

Before anything else, get clear on what your brand feels like and what message you want your images to communicate. Creating a mood board with colours, poses, lighting, and styles you love is a great way to visualise this — and it also helps your photographer understand your vision. If you find this overwhelming then I will be on hand to help and guide you through this process.

2. Choose Outfits That Represent You

Your clothing should reflect your brand identity.
Tips:

  • Go for colours that align with your brand palette.

  • Avoid loud patterns and big logos that distract from your face.

  • For the full brand package Bring multiple outfit options — at least 2–3 — to give variety in your final images.

3. Select the Right Location(s)

The backdrop should tell part of your brand story:

  • Coffee shop or office for cozy, lifestyle vibes

  • Outdoor locations for natural, creative looks

  • Your office or workspace

We will discuss these with ahead of time and decide on the perfect place for your brand session.

4. Create a Shot List

I will plan most of the images after our initial booking in meeting and I will ask you there are any keys images that you would included in your photography shoot. This ensures you don’t miss anything on the day and gives structure to the session.

5. Pack Props That Tell Your Story

Bring items that help explain what you do — e.g., your laptop, planner, favourite mug, tools of your trade, products, etc. Props make images more personal and engaging.

6. Grooming

Plan for hair, makeup, and self-care in advance. You don’t need to look “perfect,” just polished and aligned with your brand vibe.

7. Communicate With Your Photographer Julie

Please share vision boards, colour palettes, brand guidelines, and the shot list with me before the shoot. The more I understand your brand, the better I can capture it.

8. Poses & Expressions

I understand that being in front of the camera can feel awkward, But please don’t worry with 14 years of photography experience I will help and guide you in this so that you will be as relaxed as possible during this process.

9. Logistics & Timing

As much as we can plan and prepare, This is Scotland and sometimes the weather may not be on our side. I like to plan and prepare for this as much as possible and here are some things to bear in mind when we choose times for our session.

  • Lighting (especially for outdoor shoots)

  • Weather

  • Time of day (golden hour often gives beautiful light)

  • Arriving early and having everything packed the day before
